Facebook launches Facebook Lite. An app for low-end Android devices which suppose to be lightweight, faster, use less resource, and many other things that suppose to make it a seamless experience. The official Facebook app takes up approximately 30MB of device storage, loads slowly and requires two separate apps if you want to message your friends. If you’re using a budget Android device, or your have a poor 2G connection, Facebook Lite is a better alternative.
The Lite version of the app is just 252KB instead of the 27MB version of the app. The best feature I found in this Lite version is you don’t need Messenger app to access Facebook Messages.
Features
-Fast to install — the app is less than 1 MB
– Quick to load
– Efficient with data
– Designed for 2G networks and areas with limited network connectivity
– Message friends and have group conversations
– Get notifications when friends like and comment on your posts
– See what friends are up to
Facebook restricts access to the application on Google Play to select countries in Asia and Africa. If you try to install it from another location, most of Europe or North-America for instance, you will get the notification that the app is incompatible with your device.
For now, Facebook Lite is available in Bangladesh, Nepal, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe. It is however possible to download the application from third-party sources and install it directly on your Android device.
The App runs on all devices with Android 2.2+.
